Wilkins and VonderHaar shine
September 2, 2002
Tenisha Wilkins and Jen VonderHaar helped the NIU volleyball team break in Victor E. Court over the weekend
The Huskies hosted Drake University, IUPUI and Indiana University in the Best Western Invitational at the new Convocation Center.
Wilkins and VonderHaar were NIU’s two representatives on the seven player All-Tournament squad, which is picked by the four coaches of the participating teams.
It was the second-straight year that VonderHaar has made the Best Western Invitational All-Tournament team.
“I think VonderHaar had a solid weekend,” NIU coach Ray Gooden said. “I think ‘T’ [Wilkins] knows what she needs to work on to help us get over the top.”
The 5-foot-9-inch Wilkins, who was Honorable Mention All-MAC last season, had 37 kills and 32 digs in the three matches.
VonderHaar, a 6-foot middle blocker, had 38 kills and 7 blocks in the three matches.
“I think they both played really well,” defensive specialist Melissa Benson said. “They came out and they were good leaders. I think all in all, they did a great job.”
