DeKalb hails taxi service
November 7, 2001
Beep Beep! There is a new taxi service in DeKalb called Cruisers Taxi Service.
Ted Brown, owner of Cruisers, is excited about how things are going so far.
“Things are going really good right now,” Brown said. “We had our best day ever last Saturday.”
This new taxi service, which debuted last month, has two cabs, a Lincoln Town Car and a Chrysler LHS. Brown hopes to add a third car in about a week.
Brown saw a need for a taxi service in DeKalb after he noticed there was a lack of transportation.
“Buses can only provide limited transportation,” Brown said. “We are offering people another reasonable choice.”
DeKalb Mayor Greg Sparrow praises the start of the new taxi service because he also saw great need for it.
“We had a transportation problem in DeKalb, and Cruisers Taxi helped to alleviate the situation,” Sparrow said.
Brown believes the taxi service is convenient and flexible.
“Service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” Brown said. “We will pick up anywhere.”
DeKalb City Manager Jim Connors sees the service as a great addition to the city.
“We now have an opportunity for alternate transportation,” Connors said. “We have had many calls from residents in DeKalb urging the approval of a taxi license.”
DeKalb resident Jacob Mason appreciates the new service.
“I needed to get a ride to downtown DeKalb, so I called Cruisers, and they picked me up in less than 10 minutes,” Mason said.
