NIU gets mixed results
April 2, 2001
After coming up short against Marshall and Miami University, the NIU women’s tennis team won its Friday match but lost Saturday afternoon.
On Friday, the Huskies won 7-0 against University of Toledo, securing a 1-2 record in the MAC, but then they lost to Eastern Michigan 7-0 on Saturday.
The loss to EMU has put the Huskies’ record at 1-3. Coach Laura Scott said EMU’s win did not come easy.
“We made them win points and work for everything,” Scott said. “We did not give any points away.”
Molly Opel dropped the tie-breaking point against EMU’s Kendra Clark. Carrie Tyioran was the second Huskie who came close to winning her matches.
Kris Tiedt and Kristi McIntyre also won three of their singles matches. In doubles, Tanya Sukovic and McIntyre won four of their matches but still were defeated.
Scott was happy with the team’s performance against EMU, a team that has been unbeaten in the MAC this season.
“Eastern Michigan is simply a very mature team with solid players all the way down the line-up,” she said.
The team will return to the road to take on Bowling Green State and Ball State universities next weekend.
