Tennis takes aim through tough practices

NIU women’s tennis coach Laura Scott knows this weekend is a big one for the Huskies, as they face Bowling Green and Ball State.
The Huskies will face Bowling Green at 1 p.m. Friday and Ball State at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Scott put her team through a concentrated one-on-one practice before heading on the road, and she is hopeful the team can win if they play the way they did last weekend.
“We have the opportunity to be very competitive,” she said.
Scott was not pleased with the team’s inconsistent performance two weeks ago when they lost both matches against Miami and Marshall University.
Scott said the key to last week’s win against Toledo was the good practices they had the week before.
“We’re in the direction I want us to be in,” she said.
Scott credited the upperclassmen Molly Opel and Kris Tiedt with setting the tone for practice. She said the other players took their cues from Opel and Tiedt and played harder.
Scott added that everybody on the team has been playing really well and has raised the level of play.
If the Huskies win both matches this weekend, their Mid-American Conference record will be 3-3.
