Arson suspected in Sunday fire

By Tyler Vincent

An early Sunday morning fire at a vacant building has DeKalb fire officials searching for arson suspects.

A total of 25 firefighters were called to the three-story building at 830 Edgebrook about 12:50 a.m. Fire was coming from a first-floor window, according to the DeKalb Fire Department. It took 20 minutes for DeKalb and Sycamore crews to bring the blaze under control.

Window panels were removed to provide for extra ventilation on all three floors after the blaze was extinguished.

Damage was estimated at $12,000. No injuries were reported to either civilians or firefighters.

Officials would not reveal what evidence led them to believe arson was the cause of the fire, citing that the matter is still under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call DeKalb Police Chief Pete Polarek at 748-8460.Carrie Wieg photo
