Men’s basketball gears for Marshall
February 22, 2001
The NIU men’s basketball team looks for revenge tonight at Marshall.
The battleground is Henderson Center in Huntington, W.Va., where the Huskies will meet the Thundering Herd for the second time this season. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
In their first game Feb. 7, the Herd easily defeated the Huskies 94-66. The last time the Huskies won at Henderson Center was Jan. 8, 1998, when they squeaked by Marshall 69-68.
“We’re looking forward to getting back on the road and getting that next ‘W,'” said NIU interim coach Andy Greer. “It has been a tough stretch for us, but one way to ease the pain is with a win.”
After Marshall, NIU ends its two-game road trip Saturday against Eastern Michigan. The Huskies carry an 18-game losing skid in away games, and are 0-12 this season.
If the MAC tournament started today, the Huskies (4-19 overall, 3-11 Mid-American Conference) would find themselves facing the Thundering Herd in the first round. The Herd (15-8, 9-6), which has lost two of its last three games, is the sixth seed.
