Wrestling hosts Missouri for final home meet

Sunday marks the last home match for senior David Potter as the defending Mid-American Conference champion and the rest of the NIU wrestling team face the University of Missouri.

The meet starts at 1 p.m. at Chick Evans Field House.

The Huskies (9-7-2 overall) come into the dual with a winning season already in hand. Now the grapplers hope to break into double-digit wins for the first time since Ed Vatch’s 15-7 record in 1989.

Several of the underclassmen have shown they want to make a run for the MAC championships. Freshman Bryce Hasseman hopes to continue his winning streak after posting three pins last weekend. Fellow freshman Jamie Hey also won three last weekend and holds a No. 2 ranking in the MAC coaches poll.

Junior Scott Owen and senior Ryan Egan are looking to finish off the season hot before the upcoming MAC championships, improving their 20-plus win seasons along with sophomore Bill Lowney.

NIU wrestling coach Dave Grant wants the young team to remain focused and determined heading into the final match.

“I want to end the season on a winning note and carry some momentum into the MAC championships,” Grant said.
