Mens tennis drops second-straight dual meet, 7-0

It’s no secret the Big Ten Conference produces top-quality athletic teams year after year. Following this trend, they seem to have a dominance over NIU.
The NIU men’s tennis squad dropped its second-straight dual meet Friday with a 7-0 loss to Wisconsin. The loss proceeds the 6-1 beating last Saturday against Northwestern.
The Badgers managed to get the quick lead by grabbing the doubles point by sweeping all three matches.
In the No. 1 singles match, Raymond Van Wasbeek won his first set against UW’s Dustin Friedman but was unable to capitalize after that. Van Wasbeek dropped the next two sets 6-4 and 6-2, giving the match to Friedman.
Aaron Forsberg was the only other Huskie to win a set, with a 7-6 victory in the second set against the Badgers’ Blake Baratz in the No. 4 spot. Forsberg valiantly fought to stay alive in the third set but ended up falling 7-5 to Baratz.
NIU coach Steve Rodecap believes the Huskies need to improve on their drive to win.
“When we get down in matches, it seems like we just roll over and die,” said Rodecap. “When we get down like that, we have to learn to fight, and we didn’t do a good job of that tonight.”
