Getting confident, Huskies target Toledo
January 19, 2001
Andy Greer got his wish Wednesday, breaking the NIU men’s basketball team’s two-game losing streak.
The Huskies defeated Eastern Michigan 58-52 — and now await Toledo, with the tip-off at 2:05 p.m. Saturday at Chick Evans Field House.
Greer, the team’s interim head coach, said after the EMU game that his Huskies’ confidence is starting to show.
Before the two-game slump, it was starting to gel, but it suffered after losses to Kent State and Ball State.
“I thought we were making a lot of progress going up until the Kent State game [Tuesday],” he said. “We really took a couple of steps back. I thought for 19 minutes against Ball State we really played well. But we caved in.”
To defeat the Rockets, the Huskies will have to play great in the full 40 minutes. At 12-4 and 4-1 in the Mid-American Conference, Toledo has the best record in the MAC.
The Rockets are coming off a 52-51 loss against Ball State. Greg Stempim leads the team with 17.5 points and 7.6 boards a game.
