Regardless of record, Huskies remain wary

Despite NIU’s Saturday opponent Central Michigan’s record of 3-15 overall and no wins in the Mid-American Conference, coach Carol Hammerle isn’t guaranteeing a win.
“I’ve seen tapes on Central; they’ve got good athletes,” said Hammerle.
Coming off two straight home wins against MAC foes, the NIU women’s basketball team is now in third place in the MAC West.
The Huskies come into the game with a 4-2 record in the MAC and 3-0 at home against conference opponents.
They look to extend their winning streak to three as they take on Central Michigan at 2:05 p.m. Saturday.
The Huskies have won six of their last eight games, and now stand at 8-11 overall. Defense again will be key for the Huskies’ success.
In their last three home games, they have held their opponents to an average of 54.6 points per game.
Central Michigan is led by freshman forward and leading scorer Beth Kindel (11.8 points a game) and junior guard Molli Munz (9.7). However, they are only averaging 53.8 points a contest. Hammerle attributes that to their impatient play.
“I don’t feel they’re always real patient in their execution offensively,” she said. “They’re not shy about shooting the ball at all.”
Hammerle summed up in one sentence what it’s going to take to come out victorious in this game.
“Against them, I think it’s going to be real important that we don’t get caught up in their style of play,” she said.
