Panhellenic Council hopes to create unity
November 12, 1992
The newly-elected executive members of the Panhellenic Council would like to see more unity among all greek systems.
Julie Lardino, president of Sigma Sigma Sigma and the new president of Panhel Council, said she would like to accomplish stronger ties between the Interfraternity Council, Panhel Council and the Black Greek Council.
“If we work together, we can create a better foundation for greeks,” she said.
Lardino also said if greeks are able to discuss things together, they can promote a better image for greeks.
Rachel Slavic, a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha and new Panhel vice president, said she would like to setup a judicial board for women in sororities. She said each sorority would elect a representative from their sorority to be representatives on the judicial board.
“There haven’t been any problems with the sororities in the past but just in case anything would happen, we would have a judicial board to handle the conflict,” Slavic said.
Liz Hartwig, a member of Delta Phi Epsilon and the new vice president of membership selection, said her first task is to get together with sororities and the greek adviser to evaluate the system.
She said her plans include talking about each aspect of Rush and how it can be improved with representatives from each sorority and Dawn Sturma, activities adviser for greek affairs.
“I want to get the numbers up for Rush,” Hartwig said.
Kathy Stover, a member of Alpha Delta Pi and the new vice president of activities, said she would like to see more unity in the greek systems and less disputes.
“If we do something to have houses interact more, to get to know each other … that is where unity will begin,” Stover said.
Rachel Russman, a member of Delta Gamma and the new vice president of public relations, said she will make sure nothing is done to give the greeks a bad image.
“I would like to make sure greeks get credit where credit is due,” she said.
“I want to inform non-greeks what the greek system, Panhellenic and Interfraternity is so they are more knowledgeable of us,” Russman added.
Lisa Joniak, a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha and the new vice president of membership development, said she would like to take the pledges and associate members of houses and ease their way into the greek system.
She added that she would like to get more speakers for New Greek Council, which deals more with the new greeks adjusting to college life.
Gail Nuval, a member of Alpha Omicron Pi and the new Panhel secretary, said, “I would like to see more unity between all the greek houses by setting up more activities for all greeks: Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic and Black Greek Council.”
Lardino said she would like to have meetings once a month with all three greek systems, Panhel Council, Interfraternity Council and the Black Greek Council.
“I think if greeks are unified we will accomplish more,” she said.
