NIU responds to ‘vile and racist comments’
June 17, 2020
NIU responded Tuesday to a series of “vile and racist comments.”
NIU’s response to a Twitter thread included mention of a person who would’ve taken a leadership role involving fraternity and sorority life.
The fraternity and sorority life role became vacant Monday. Interested candidates can apply for the position in the future, according to the statement.
“Racism in any form does not align with NIU’s mission, vision and values and we take these matters seriously,” according to a statement made by NIU Tuesday.
NIU cannot comment with specific details due to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, or FERPA.
