Illinois tweaked how business owners seeking recreational marijuana licenses can apply following complaints that the process favored politically connected and rich applicants over minorities and veterans who were supposed to benefit. Pritzker, a first-term Democrat, was expected to discuss the changes at a Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2020, news conference.

DeKALB — Bettors who have failed to register online for various Illinois sportsbooks are not out of luck yet, due to Governor J.B. Pritzker’s extension of his executive order on online registration for sportsbook gambling.

Joe Orstrowski, of 670 The Score, reported on Twitter Friday that Pritzker was going to extend the order which was set to expire Saturday.

The executive order, which was filed Friday with the Secretary of State’s office , was “re-issued in its entirety and extended through October 17,” according Friday’s order

The consequences of the order expiring would have reverted back to the states’ original policy that required all users register in-person before being allowed to place bets mobily throughout the state of Illinois. That means, per the Illinois law from March, those who were registering with FanDuel Sportsbook would need to visit Par-A-Dice Casino in Peoria, and Casino Queen in East St. Louis for DraftKings before you could bet from home.

This announcement came as Pitzker extended multiple executive orders Friday due to the continued effects of the Coronavirus pandemic, but also after the Illinois Gaming Board released monthly revenue numbers for July which totaled near $51.4 million in total. Approximately $47.7 million of July’s revenue came from online channels according to the report.

The extension is good for another 30 days, with the option for the governor to further extend, if necessary. Illinois has five active online sportsbooks, with the possibility for others to follow suit in the next month.
