Multiple fire departments respond to apartment fire on Hillcrest Drive

DeKALB — Multiple fire departments responded to a structure fire that broke out at around 5:45 p.m. Thursday at the College Park Apartments on the 1100 block of Hillcrest Drive.

Police blocked traffic from the west end of Hillcrest Drive in order for the fire departments to extinguish the fire.

DeKalb Fire Chief Jeff McMasters said the fire is still active and the department was able to contain it to one single unit and it didn’t spread throughout the building.

McMasters said it is unknown how many people live in the unit, but there were no victims left inside and all residents are presumed to be safe.

City Manager Bill Nicklas was at the scene and said the cause of the fire is still unknown. He said the fire is still burning and firefighters are working to stop the spread.

Multiple fire departments responded to the fire including, DeKalb, Sycamore and Cortland.
