DeKALB- Incumbent Dennis J. Miller is the apparent winner of the DeKalb County coroner race after beating out Cat Brian Prescott by 11,389 votes on election night. Miller first became coroner in 1984.

Miller won with 28,888 votes against Prescott with 17,499 votes on election night, according to the DeKalb County election site.

The DeKalb County coroner determines the cause of death for deceased persons in the county. They are also responsible for identifying bodies, signing death certificates and returning any personal belongings found on deceased bodies to the family of the deceased.

Miller plans to continue the service he has been providing to the people of DeKalb and says he has worked hard over the years to make the coroner’s office much more efficient and cost-effective.

Miller’s campaign ran on the continuation of his work and maintenance of the relationships he has built within the community and state.

Miller’s next term will begin on Jan. 1, 2021.

Mail-in ballots have to be postmarked before or on Nov. 3 and must arrive by Nov. 17 to be counted.
