DeKALB — Women’s golf released its 2021 spring competition schedule, which consists of seven multi-day invitationals starting on Feb. 8.

The Huskies will begin their season on Feb. 8 at Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club in Lakewood Ranch, FL for the Mid-American Match Play Challenge, hosted by Bowling Green State University.

From Florida, the team will come back to NIU for two weeks before traveling back down to the Atlantic coast to compete in the Kiawah Island Classic on Feb. 28. The tournament will be contested at Kiawah Island Resorts Oak and Cougar Point Golf Clubs in South Carolina.

Following the team’s trip to Kiawah, the team’s schedule seems to flow back into a list of regularly scheduled invitationals starting with the team’s return to the JackRabbit Invitational at Boulder Creek in Nevada on Mar. 8. In the Huskies last appearance in the tournament, the team took third place out of 12 teams.

Mar. 15, the team will head to Sand Hollow Golf Course in Hurricane, UT to compete at the BYU Spring Classic, which the team finished in fourth place behind BYU, the University of Iowa and the University of North Texas.

The final two stops prior to the Mid-American Championship will also be familiar to the Huskies. On Mar. 29 the team will head to Richmond, KY to play in the EKU Colonial Classic. While last year’s playing of the tournament was canceled due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, NIU finished second in the 2019 playing of the event.

The final event of the season before the conference championship will see the Huskies travel south on I-39 to Weibring Golf Club in Normal, IL for the ISU Redbird Invitational.

The Redbird Invitational is typically staged in the fall portion of the women’s schedule, but has moved this year to April 9-10 due to the cancelation of the fall golf season. The team secured a victory in the 2018 playing of the tournament and took sixth in 2019.

This year’s MAC Championship is set to take place starting April 24 at Silver Lake Country Club in Stow, OH.  The two-day stroke play championship will crown not only a conference champion on the team level, but also an individual champion. Both the team champion and individual champion will earn automatic berths into the NCAA Golf Regionals.
