With Valentine’s Day around the corner, couples will, no doubt, want to celebrate their relationships through all kinds of activities. For those searching for different things to do on Sunday, here are some ideas.

Watching a romance film

For those who want a nice, quiet night in, curling up on the couch with a bowl of popcorn, watching a romance film seems ideal. Local movie theaters, like AMC, 2160 Sycamore Road., are open on Valentine’s Day and many streaming services have amped up on the amount of romantic films they have during the month of February.

In case all of these options seem too much, here are some recommendations and the streaming services they’re on: “Casablanca,” “The Notebook” and “Crazy Rich Asians” on HBO Max; “50 First Dates” and “The Artist” on Netflix; “Love, Simon” on Hulu; “Coming to America” on Amazon Prime Video; and “10 Things I Hate About You” on Disney+.

Cook dinner

While cooking dinner for your loved one is romantic enough, both partners in a relationship cooking together is even better because it leaves room for collaboration. If two people are working on a meal, it can also allow for more courses and can prove to be a fun activity.

Order out and support local restaurants

With indoor dining being reinstated in Illinois since January, local restaurants could use the support. Among the best places to eat in DeKalb on Valentine’s Day includes Egg Haven, 2562 Sycamore Road., which is open from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., and makes for a great place to have brunch. Egg Haven can also cater to multiple dietary needs, according to their website.

Other locations with indoor dining include Pizza Villa, 824 W. Lincoln Highway, which has more than enough pizza for couples to split. Fushi Yami, 822 W. Lincoln Highway, which has some of the finest Japanese cuisine around. All of these restaurants and many more in DeKalb are available for carry out.

Get candy at DeKalb’s Confectionary

The Confectionary, 149 N. Second St., is the best place in DeKalb to get candy. Right now they are only open for curbside pickup, but their inventory is available to view online, according to their website. Right now they are selling chocolate covered strawberries for pick-up on Valentine’s Day. However, there are only so many orders that can be placed due to the limited quantity.

Glidden Florist

Providing beautiful flowers for all occasions, Glidden Florist, 917 W Lincoln Hwy, has more than enough flowers for significant others with same-day delivery available. Bouquet prices for Valentine’s Day range from $45.99 to $284.99, according to their website.

Do whatever you want

Ultimately, every couple is going to celebrate Valentine’s Day in their own way. The important thing is both people in a relationship use the day to affirm and celebrate their feelings towards each other.

Also, while Valentine’s Day is a great way to show appreciation for significant others, make sure that being incredibly wonderful on Feb. 14 isn’t just an annual tradition. Treat every day with your significant other like Valentine’s Day.
