DeKALB – With Tier 3 being lifted in January, not only were restaurants allowed to have indoor dining, but movie theaters are allowed to be open at 25% capacity. DeKalb’s AMC Market Square 10 Theater, 2160 Sycamore Rd., is the only place for people to go out to see a film, so, for those curious about what going to see a film is like now, here is some information about the theater going experience.

When is the Theater Open: Currently, AMC Market Square 10 is only open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays with showtimes on Fridays and Sundays ranging from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday showtimes ranging from noon to 8 p.m.

During the week of March 21, due to local schools’ Spring Breaks, AMC Market Square 10 will be open every day of that week, according to AMC’s website. However, the theater will continue to operate on a three day operating schedule until further notice.

What Films Are They Showing: Currently, AMC Market Square 10 is only playing new releases. Among the films being played this upcoming weekend are “Tom and Jerry,” “Judas and the Black Messiah” and “Wonder Woman 1984.”

Theater Capacities and Safety Measures: Currently, in cooperation with state guidelines, theaters are only allowed to have their auditoriums at 25% capacity. Also, masks are required throughout the entire film, but can be removed only to enjoy concessions. To ensure social distancing, whenever a seat is selected for a customer, the seats to their left and right are blocked to prevent other movie goers from sitting directly next to each other.

Theaters are cleaned and sanitized in between each showing and bathrooms are cleaned regularly, according to AMC’s website. Theater staff are also required to wear masks.

Ordering Tickets and Concessions: This is the only part of the theater going experience that is relatively unchanged. Tickets can be ordered online, in the AMC app or can be bought at the theater’s box office the day of the showing. However, for the latermost option, there might not be enough theater space to ensure tickets.

Concessions can also be ordered in the same way with all the theater classics, popcorn, soft drinks and candy, available. To avoid unnecessary contact, all the concessions are given to customers in a bag and customers must apply their own butter and fill their own cups.
