Men’s basketball suffers another major blowout loss

DeKALB — The Huskies were pummeled by Eastern Michigan University on the road in Ypsilanti, Michigan, by a score of 91-57.
NIU’s last game against EMU was cancelled due to contact tracing, making this the first time the Huskies have played the Eagles this season. It was a struggle for the Huskies playing against another team at the bottom of the MAC standings.
The Huskies shot 36.8% from the field and 31.6% from the 3-point line while EMU shot over 50% from the field and 57.1% from the 3-point line.
The Huskies were led by sophomore guard Tyler Cochran who had 20 points with two steals and junior guard Trendon Hankerson who had 18 points. Junior forward Anthony Crump played after getting injured in Tuesday’s game against the University at Buffalo Bulls and scored three points. Junior guard Darius Beane did not play after hurting his ankle in the previous game.
The Eagles were led by senior guard Noah Morgan with 22 points and senior guard Yeikson Montero with 20 points. The Eagles would go on a 17-3 run towards the end of the first half which would put them up by 13 points and would make it difficult for the Huskies to come back. This is the second straight game the Huskies surrendered more than 90 points. Before this week, the team had only given up more than 90 points on Dec. 13 against the University of Iowa Hawkeyes.
The Huskies are at the bottom of the standings in the MAC and are looking for wins in their last two games of the season as they try to end the season positively with no chance to make the MAC tournament in Cleveland, Ohio.
The Huskies will play 6 p.m. Tuesday against the Western Michigan University Broncos at the Convocation Center in DeKalb. The game can be streamed on ESPN+.
