DeKALB — Women’s soccer falls due to a second-half goal in Thursday’s game against the Western Michigan Broncos, 1-0. This was NIU’s first conference game of the season.

The first half saw the Huskie defense allow the Broncos one shot. On offense, the Huskies attempted four shots, with two making on goal, with WMU redshirt junior goalkeeper Hannah Sargent saving both.

The second half saw a much more aggressive Broncos team, which managed to attempt nine shots, seven of which were on goal. Unfortunately for the Huskies, one of the seven shots found its way past junior goalkeeper Julia Lentz in the 82nd minute. WMU senior forward Bailey Korhorn scored the goal off a deflected ball she recovered. Lentz had six saves on the day.

The Huskies were only able to attempt two shots in the second half, one being on goal, which Sargent saved. Neither shots came within the final eight minutes of the match, allowing for WMU to hold on for the win on the road.

With the loss, the Huskies start the season 0-1, with all remaining games being Mid-American Conference contests. The team hits the road for its next game noon Sunday against the University of Toledo Rockets in Toledo, Ohio. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats can be found at UTrockets.com.
