DeKALB – Active Minds will be hosting a bingo night fundraiser for its local chapter at 7 p.m. Thursday via Zoom with a variety of prizes.

Since 2003, Active Minds has built a strong network of over 550 chapters that reach over 600,000 students each year by raising awareness, education and advocacy for mental health, according to the Active Minds website

To gain access to the Active Minds fundraiser, those interested can Cash App $5 or more to $NIUActiveMinds with their email. A Zoom link and bingo card will be sent to participate in the bingo night, said Jack Gordon, Treasurer of NIU’s Active Minds chapter and first-year BFA acting major.

“We’re a support group constantly trying to educate people,” Gordon said. “Without education, mental health will continue to be stigmatized and with the money we raise, we can not only spread our name more — we can recruit better and run cooler events.”

Prizes will include $25 to Junction Eating Place, 816 W. Lincoln Hwy, $25 to Cast Iron Coffee, 901 Lucinda Ave Suite D, $25 to Buffalo Wild Wings, 2466 Sycamore Rd, $20 to Little Caesars, 2350 Sycamore Rd Suite J and more, Gordon said. Half of the profits will go to the local chapter and the other half will go to the national organization.
