Women’s soccer falls in home closer
April 9, 2021
DeKALB — Women’s soccer extends its losing streak to seven after its loss to the Ball State University Cardinals Thursday in DeKalb, 1-0. This was the team’s final home game of the season.
There wasn’t much action offensively from NIU in this one, as it only managed to attempt three shots with only one being on goal. All three attempts came in the second half, with the one on goal coming from first-year forward Kierah Meier.
On the defensive end, junior goalkeeper Julia Lentz saw a decent amount of action, mostly in the second half. Lentz played all 90 minutes for the Huskies, picking up six saves, unfortunately letting one shot get past her in the 84th minute. The lone goal of the game came from BSU’s senior midfielder Melissa Diceman.
With the loss, the Huskies fall to 1-8 in the Mid-American Conference with one game remaining on the schedule. Unfortunately for NIU, it sits at the bottom of the MAC West Division, meaning a playoff berth with one game remaining is impossible.NIU’s final game of the season will feature a matchup against the Central Michigan University Chippewas. The Huskies last faced the Chippewas on March 21, when they were shut out 3-0 at home. Kickoff takes place at noon Sunday in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. The game will be available via Chippewas All-Access.
