Women’s golf finishes second at MAC Championship
Ingle named to All-MAC Team, Kester named Co-Coach of the year

DeKALB — Women’s golf finished its 2020-2021 campaign at the MAC Championship at Silver Lake Country Club in Stow, Ohio, Friday and Saturday. The Huskies came in second place behind 13th ranked Kent State University who captured its 10th consecutive MAC women’s golf title.
The Huskies saw two individuals place inside the top-ten on the leaderboard. Senior Lauren Ingle shot an eight-over 224 to finish in a tie for third, while first-year Jasmine Ly took solo sixth with a 10-over 226. The Huskies’ strong showing was still not enough to punch an NCAA regional berth on the team or individual fronts.
“We knew we had a tall task with Kent State ranked top 15 in the country,” Head Coach Kim Kester said. “The goal coming in was to finish top two and we did that and that was a result of all the hard work everyone put in this season.”
The Huskies took home three All-MAC honors as Ingle was named to the All-MAC first team and earned a spot on the All-Tournament team. Ingle is the first Huskie in women’s golf history to be named to the first team and just the third to the tournament team, according to NIU Athletics.
“It was awesome to see [Ingle] get rewarded with first team All-MAC,” Kester said. “She grinded hard all year managing the season and nursing school. I’m super proud of her and happy she was able to end the year on a high note.”
Kester also took home conference honors as she was named MAC Co-Coach of the year along with Kent State Head Coach Lisa Storm.
This was Kester’s first time receiving this honor since she took over the program in 2012. During this modified season, the Huskies captured two team wins, two runner-up finishes and finished inside the top-five in all tournaments but one.
