Update, 9:30 a.m. Tuesday: Frazier commented on the reports of his consideration for the Michigan State job Monday at NIU Fall Media Day.

“I have not (talked to Michigan State),” Frazier said. “It’s more about what NIU is doing more than little old me. I think in this time and age, people are looking for leadership, they’re looking for an opportunity and what we’ve been able to do here. Obviously, I’m humbled by whatever back-room stuff that’s going on, but at this time I’ve not been contacted or feel the need to comment on such. Again, I’m humbled by the consideration.”

DeKALB —NIU Athletic Director Sean Frazier is reportedly an early candidate for the vacant Athletic Director position at Michigan State University, according to a Thursday report from Brett McMurphy of Stadium.

Michigan State Athletic Director Bill Beekman took over a new role with the university on Thursday and the search for his replacement is underway. Beekman is taking over as vice president for strategic initiatives. McMurphy tweeted Thursday that, according to sources, Frazier is “among top candidates” for the job.

Frazier has been the athletic director at NIU since 2013, joining from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he was Deputy Athletic Director and Chief of Staff. NIU Athletics declined to comment on the report.

The Northern Star will follow this situation and update as more news becomes available.
