Schmack in final

NIU right-hander Brian Schmack was scheduled to start last night’s title game of the 66th American Legion World Series in Fargo, N.D.

Schmack, who earned the win Wednesday over Newbury Park, Calif., in the opening round, has not seen action since then for Arlington Heights Post 208.

After defeating Newbury Park 8-5, Arlington Heights came back the next night with a 2-1 win over Brooklawn, N.J.

Arlington Heights suffered its first loss of the double-elimination tournament Saturday night to Newbury Park, 7-4, at Jack Williams Stadium.

Sunday afternoon, Newbury Park was slated to play Brooklawn, who came into the tourney as the defending champion.

The winner of that game was to face Arlington Heights for the championship.

This is the first time an Arlington Heights Legion team has reached the championship game.
