DeKALB — It will be a very family-oriented weekend at NIU from Sept. 10-12, with plenty of activities for families to participate in throughout the entirety of NIU’s Family Weekend.

To be a part of the family weekend at NIU, students must register online to let the university know that you and your student here at the university will be a part of the activities that take place this weekend. Students can find all of the registration information on the official NIU website, along with parking information, staying on campus, what to eat and more.

Once students check-in for the NIU Family Weekend at the check-in table in the Holmes Student Center. The weekend kicks off with a meet and greet at Barsema Hall from 6 to 8 p.m. with Beth Ingram, executive vice president and provost, and the NIU President Lisa Freeman.

On Saturday, pregame activities will be taking place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the westside of Huskie Stadium before the football game. There will be plenty of food, drinks, games to participate in and a chance for students to rush the field as family looks on in the stands.

At 12:30 p.m., the football game will begin where NIU will take on Wyoming University in their second game of the season, looking to improve to 2-0 on the season, and it will be the first time we had fans in the stands since before COVID-19.

On Sunday, to finish off the weekend, there will be a free breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon in the Holmes Student Center in the Duke Ellington Ballroom, where students and family can eat and interact with each other.

Then before family members hit the road and say goodbye, there will be an opportunity to take photos in remembrance of the weekend from 10 a.m. to noon in the MLK Commons.
