Monday
- Honors In-Course Contract Workshops: The University Honors Program will host an ICC workshop at 10:30 a.m. via Blackboard.
- Exploring English Fair: Discover all that English has to offer at this event for majors and minors at 12 p.m. at the Zen Garden, outside by Zulauf/Reavis Halls.
- “Born a Crime”: Experiences of Race, Meanings of Race-Mixing in Comparative Perspective: Join for a discussion about the meanings and experiences of “race-mixing” in comparative perspective with examples from Germany & the United States. The event will be at 1 p.m. via Zoom.
- Huskies, Get Hired!: Master the Huskies Get Hired (HGH) online system to find openings for on campus employment, off campus part-time jobs, internships, and jobs for after college. The event will be at 2 p.m. via Microsoft Teams.
- LGBTQ + Unidos: Painting quotes at 3 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center.
- Student Success Session with Sarah: Join Peer Academic Coach Sarah Heinz for a live chat anytime during this half-hour session at 4 p.m. via Microsoft Teams.
- General Meeting – Black Male Initiative: This will be a general meeting for the members of Black Male Initiative which will meet at 4:30 p.m. in the Campus Life Building.
- SCEC Information Meeting: Student Council for Exceptional Children, NIU’s Student Disability Awareness Group will have their first information meeting of the 2021-22 school year. The event will be at 4:30 p.m. via Microsoft Teams.
- Outdoor Adventures: Colorado Snowboard/Ski Trip Information Meeting: Outdoor Adventures will be heading to Winter Park, Colorado in December. The information meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center, Leaders Lounge.
Tuesday
- Active Bystander Workshop: During the workshop, students will learn about the basics of sexual misconduct and the ways to help fellow Huskies be active bystanders. The event will be at 10 a.m. via Zoom.
- Echo Global Logistics Meet & Greet Table: Echo Global Logistics will host an information table in the Barsema Hall atrium to discuss internship and job opportunities. The event will be at 10 a.m. at the Barsema Hall Atrium.
- Confused? Career Clusters Can Help: Discover the Clusters, how Career Services uses Career Clusters, and how your experiences at NIU can prepare you for a career. The event will be at 12 p.m. via Microsoft Teams.
- Hospitality 320 “Ellington’s” served at The Depot: Campus Dining Services will be serving southwest quinoa salad with chips and salsa and a churro bite for only $8.99. This will be at 12 p.m. at the Depot C-store located in Holmes Student Center.
- Serving up Knowledge: Professional Communication: Join the honors fellows to discuss how to approach professional communication and involvement at 12:45 p.m. via Microsoft Teams.
- Resume Writing: The Essentials: Learn the essentials of a good resume, along with effective ways to communicate your value to employers at this 2:30 p.m. workshop via Microsoft Teams.
- Bike Service at the Adventure Center: Having bike troubles? Stop by and see what we can do to help you out and get you rolling again. This will be at the Student Recreation Center, Adventure Center at 4 p.m.
- BELIEF Week Speaker Series: Claudia Bonilla-Carmicheal: Entrepreneur Claudia Bonilla-Carmicheal will describe her journey as an entrepreneur, and the business challenges she faced as a woman and person of color. The event will be at 5 p.m. at Barsema Hall, Main Auditorium, Room 200.
- First Impressions Count Networking Night: During the First Impressions Count Networking Night, students will have the opportunity to practice communication and interpersonal skills in a virtual setting. The event will be at 5:30 p.m. Registration is required.
- Finance Investment Intro: Students from across the campus can come and learn about finance and the stock market. The event will be at 7:30 p.m. at Barsema Hall, Room 301. The event will also be streamed.
Wednesday
- Innovation Hours: This is your chance to meet with the Innovation Team and get personalized support for your innovation ideas and projects no matter the stage. The event will be at 9 a.m. at Founders Memorial Library, 71 North Partnership Studio.
- All-Majors Internship and Job Fair – Virtual via Huskies Get Hired: NIU Career Services provides an opportunity for students and alumni to connect with employers for internships, full-time, part-time and student employment positions. The fair will be at 10 a.m. via Huskies Get Hired.
- Willis Towers Watson/ Finex Cyber Liability Practice Meet & Greet Table: Willis Towers Watson/ Finex Cyber Liability Practice will host a meet & greet table at 10 a.m. in the Barsema Hall Atrium.
- Career Help Desk at Founders Memorial Library: Stop by the Career Help Desk and talk with one of our friendly Career Advisors. This event will be at 11 a.m. at the Founders Memorial Library.
- Student Success Session with Lizett: Join Peer Academic Coach Lizett Cervantes for a live chat anytime during this half-hour session at 12 p.m. via Microsoft Teams.
- Intuitive Eating Workshop: Take back your joy of eating and learn strategies to heal your relationship with food and your body at this 3 p.m. event at the Student Recreation Center.
- NIU Communiversity Gardens – Weeding Wednesdays: Join to volunteer this fall on Wednesdays through October 27 anytime between 3-5 p.m. at Anderson Hall, NIU Communiverstiy Gardens to help with weeding and preparing the gardens for winter rest. Registration is required.
- Get Qualified: Are You Career-Ready?: Attend this program to learn how you can showcase qualifications in the internship and job search process.The event will be at 4 p.m. via Microsoft Teams.
- Outdoor Adventures: Hourly Lagoon Boat Rentals: Students can rent a boat for an hour from 4-7 p.m. at East Lagoon. The price is $5 for NIU students, $10 for non-students.
- BELIEF Week Speaker Series: Ethics in Artificial Intelligence: Tech executives will discuss ethical issues in the use of artificial intelligence as it reaches more of our lives every day. This is a virtual event at 4 p.m. on Zoom, registration required.
- Outdoor Adventures: Hourly Lagoon Night Paddles: Students can rent a watercraft for an hour from 7-9 p.m. at East Lagoon. The price is $5 for NIU students, $10 for non-students.
- Sister Circle: Sister Circles are spaces for women with underrepresented racial identities. This event will be at 7 p.m. at the Center for Black Studies, Conference Room.
Thursday
- Domestic Violence Awareness Month Table Time: Stop by to support survivors. This event will be at 10 a.m. in the MLK Commons.
- Beta Tamales: Food sale at 11 a.m. outside the Latino Center.
- Hospitality 320 “Ellington’s” served at The Depot: Campus Dining Services will be serving Asian chicken lettuce wrap topped on white rice served with vegan Thai noodle salad with peanut sauce and a white chocolate chip matcha cookie for only $8.99. - Honors Capstone Workshops: The workshop will inform students about the capstone experience and give them the opportunity to ask questions. The event will be at 1:30 p.m. via Microsoft Teams.
- Wilbur You, Founder and CEO of Youtech – Innovation Conversation: You will be talking about marketing strategies and entrepreneurism in food systems. The event will be at 3 p.m. at the Founders Memorial Library, 71 North. The event will also be streamed.
- Financial Checkup 101: This class will give students a quick overview of all the various financial options/decisions throughout life. The event will be virtual at 3 p.m., register here.
- Scholarship Workshop: National STEM Fellowships: Join to learn about stemfellowships and graduate school. The event will be at 3 p.m., held virtually.
- Pre-Law Presentation: NIU Law School will be hosting a pre-law presentation for students considering pursuing a career in law. The event will be at 3:30 p.m. at the Center for Black Studies.
- Healthy Eating and Healthy Body Image: This workshop will help guide students towards a healthy relationship with food and embrace size and body diversity. The event will be at 4:30 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center, Illinois Room.
- The Declining Situation of Refugees in the World: Laura Heideman, associate professor, NIU Departments of Sociology and Nonprofit and NGO Studies, will consider the current refugee situation in the world today. The event will be at 5 p.m. in Altgeld Hall, Room 125. The event will also be streamed.
- “Kernel of Sanity” – presented by NIU School of Theatre and Dance: This play will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Stevens Building, Sally Stevens Players Theatre. The cost is $7 for non-students and is free for students who pre-register.
Friday
- Virtual Yoga: This class may vary from flow to restorative and balancing. The class will be at 1 p.m., register here.
- I Know What I Think I Said, But Did I?: Writing workshop 3 of 4 for Honors Engaged Point, must attend all 4 to earn points, or 1-3 events can count towards Connect instead. The event will be virtual at 2 p.m. Contact Edye Cowan at [email protected] for more information.
- Outdoor Adventures: Camp and Hike: Head up north to one of Wisconsin’s largest and most visited state parks, Devil’s Lake. There will be a mandatory pre-trip meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the Rec Meeting Room. Registration cost and deadline: NIU student: $100, non-student: $150 by Tuesday. The trip begins Friday at 4 p.m. at the Adventure Center.
- Free Fitness Friday – Rec Group Fitness: Join every Friday for a Free Group Fitness class at 4:30 p.m. Sign up online to attend.
- The Fall: The Fall details the experiences of seven students within this movement and how they deal with their traumas, while still moving towards activism for a free decolonized education. The event will be at 5 p.m. at the Corner Theatre, SB 249.
- “Kernel of Sanity” – presented by NIU School of Theatre and Dance: This play will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Stevens Building, Sally Stevens Players Theatre. The cost is $7 for non-students and is free for students who pre-register.
