Week of Oct. 5 gas update: Prices increase 5.6 cents per gallon
The cheapest gas prices in the state reported Sunday at $3.17/g, while the most expensive was $4.49/g with a difference of $1.32/g.

DeKALB — Illinois gas prices have risen by 5.6 cents per gallon in the past week according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 4,378 gas stations in Illinois.
Prices are currently an average of $3.32 per gallon, $1.09 more than it was last year. The national average for gas prices has stayed the same at $3.18 per gallon.
“With energy in high demand ahead of the winter heating season and a surge in global demand due to COVID-induced imbalances, we’re not likely to see a meaningful decline at the pump any time soon,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy. “Unfortunately, (we) could see prices holding near these levels for the next few weeks.”
This is the first time since 2014 that gas prices in Illinois and nationally have been over $3.00 per gallon at this time of year.
