Monday
- Student Success Session with Sarah: Join Peer Academic Coach Sarah Heinz for a live chat anytime during this half-hour session at 4 p.m. via Microsoft Teams.
- General Meeting – Black Male Initiative: This will be a general meeting for the members of Black Male Initiative which will meet at 4:30 p.m. in the Campus Life Building.
- Marketing Student Advisory Board (MSAB) Meeting: Regular meetings of the Marketing Student Advisory Board. Marketing majors are encouraged to attend. The meeting will be virtual at 5 p.m. Contact Emily Cronauer at [email protected] for more information.
- Registering for Classes Workshop with Izzy: Students can review the registration process at this virtual 5:30 p.m. workshop.
Tuesday
- Yoga: Students can connect their mind and body with yoga poses, balance, conscious breathing, and relaxation. The event will be at 8 a.m. in the Student Recreation Center, Fitness Studio B.
- NIU Flu Shot Clinic: NIU will host a flu shot clinic at 10 a.m. in the Holmes Student Center Ballroom. Students should schedule a five-minute appointment time in advance and complete the client form prior to the event.
- Office of Illinois House Speaker – Open House & Job Fair: Students are invited to an open house at 10 a.m. at the Illinois State Capitol, 401 S. 2nd ST., Room 114, Springfield, IL.
- Hospitality 320 “Ellington’s” served at The Depot: Campus Dining Services will be serving cobb salad with cheesy focaccia bread and decadent coconut date orbs or pesto zucchini noodles served with a caprese salad and tiramisu for only $8.99. This will be at 12 p.m. at the Depot C-store located in Holmes Student Center.
- Post-COVID Fundraising Events – Real Talk & Big Ideas Series: Join Evolve Giving Group’s event guru, Lisa Tarshis, for an interactive discussion about events in the coming year. The event will be at 12 p.m. via Zoom.
- Domestic Violence Awareness Month Table Time: Stop by to support survivors. This event will be at 1 p.m. in the Founders Memorial Library.
- Study Abroad 101: A study abroad advisor will provide a short presentation on general information about studying abroad and answer any questions at 3:30 p.m. in Williston Hall 417.
- Bike Service at the Adventure Center: Having bike troubles? Stop by and see what we can do to help you out and get you rolling again. This will be at the Student Recreation Center, Adventure Center at 4 p.m.
- Diversity Career Panel – Virtual via MS Teams: This will be an opportunity to hear from representatives across different industries and organizations about their own experiences in progressing through their own career path. The panel will be at 5 p.m. via Microsoft Teams,
- Stress Relief: Bowling & Pool Tables: Relieve stress and enjoy the Huskie Den at 5 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center.
- Finance Investment Intro: Students from across the campus can come and learn about finance and the stock market. The event will be at 7:30 p.m. at Barsema Hall, Room 301. The event will also be streamed.
Wednesday
- Greenwood Project Meet & Greet Table: The Greenwood Project will host a meet & greet table at 10 a.m. in the Barsema Hall Atrium.
- Career Help Desk at Founders Memorial Library: Stop by the Career Help Desk and talk with one of our friendly Career Advisors. This event will be at 11 a.m. at the Founders Memorial Library.
- Interviewing: The Essentials: Learn to prepare for internship and job interviews by attending this program. The event will be at 12 p.m. via Microsoft Teams.
- Student Success Session with Lizett: Join Peer Academic Coach Lizett Cervantes for a live chat anytime during this half-hour session at 12 p.m. via Microsoft Teams.
- Resume Writing: The Essentials: Learn the essentials of a good resume, along with effective ways to communicate your value to employers at this 1 p.m. workshop via Microsoft Teams.
- Womanist Wednesdays: Join for this interactive tabling session at 1 p.m. in DuSable Hall. Contact Ellis Heyen at [email protected] for more information.
- Creating a Conducive Study Space: Join Orientation and First Year Programs and Huskie Academic Support Center to learn how a study space can be created to accommodate best study practices. The event will be at 1:30 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center, Heritage Room.
- Managing Automatic Negative Thoughts (ANTs): This workshop aims to increase awareness of ANTs and provide tools to help conquer them. The event will be at 2 p.m. and will be virtual.
- Career Choice Basics: Attend this workshop to learn about a helpful career decision-making process and valuable career assessment and information resources. The event will be at 3 p.m. via Microsoft Teams.
- Everything you need to know about Faculty Mentors: Learn how to identify, professionally communicate and work alongside a faculty mentor. The event will be at 3 p.m. in the Campus Life Building, Room 100.
- Intuitive Eating Workshop: Take back your joy of eating and learn strategies to heal your relationship with food and your body at this 3 p.m. event at the Student Recreation Center.
- NIU Communiversity Gardens – Weeding Wednesdays: Join to volunteer this fall on Wednesdays through October 27 anytime between 3-5 p.m. at Anderson Hall, NIU Communiverstiy Gardens to help with weeding and preparing the gardens for winter rest. Registration is required.
- First-Year Composition’s 19 Annual Open Mic: This event will feature students who have been inspired by Trevor Noah’s “Born a Crime” to share their responses to Noah’s memoir. The event will be at 3:30 p.m. via Blackboard.
- Breast Cancer Awareness: Informative Paint Night: During this event, there will be an information portion as well as a painting portion. The event will be at 6 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center, Capitol Room.
- Latino Student Alliance Informational: Learn what LSA is all about, from goals to future plans! This information will be held at 6 p.m. in the Latino Resource Center.
- STEM Café: The Science Behind the COVID-19 Vaccines: The event will explain the science behind the COVID-19 vaccines. The event will be virtual at 6 p.m., register here.
- Succulent Pot Painting: Join Alpha Omega Epsilon for a succulent pot painting event at 6 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center.
- Outdoor Adventures: Hourly Lagoon Night Paddles: Students can rent a watercraft for an hour from 7-9 p.m. at East Lagoon. The price is $5 for NIU students, $10 for non-students.
Thursday
- Innovation Hours: This is your chance to meet with the Innovation Team and get personalized support for your innovation ideas and projects no matter the stage. The event will be at 9 a.m. at Founders Memorial Library, 71 North Partnership Studio.
- OMBUDS DAY 2021!!!!: Learn what an Ombudsperson does and how our office supports the campus community at 11 a.m. in the Holmes Student Center, Organization and Student Involvement Suite (OASIS).

- Virtual Info Session – Community College Leadership Ed.D. Program: Learn more about the Community College Leadership Ed.D. at Northern Illinois University including the admissions process, coursework and the dissertation of practice. The event will be virtual at 12 p.m., register here.
- Honors S’more Motivation for Midterms event: Honors students are welcome to pick up a S’more to go at 1-4 p.m. at Campus Life Building, Room 110.
- Self-Care Isn’t Selfish: A conversation of self-care will take place at 2 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center, Sky Room.
- Honors In-Course Contract Workshops: The University Honors Program will host an ICC workshop at 2:30 p.m. at Campus Life Building, Room 110.
- Applying for Graduate School-Honors Sponsored: Graduate school tips will be given at this 3:30 p.m. event in the Campus Life Building, Room 110.
- NIU ACM presents Brian Kasper and a discussion on how students can fit into the job market and technology used in business today; The event will be at 3:30 p.m. in the Psychology/Computer Science building, Room 103.
- Study Abroad 101: A study abroad advisor will provide a short presentation on general information about studying abroad and answer any questions at 3:30 p.m. in Williston Hall 417.
- Boey Honors Program Membership Meeting: The Boey Honors Program is an academic program that focuses on the success and development of the Asian and Asian-American students on campus. The event will be at 4 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center, University Suite.

Friday
- Honors Capstone Workshops: The workshop will inform students about the capstone experience and give them the opportunity to ask questions. The event will be at 9 a.m. in the Campus Life Building, Room 110.
- Peer Academic Coach Weekly Drop-in Session: PACs are undergraduate students who are involved in helping students identify and connect to campus resources. The event will be virtual at 1 p.m.
- Virtual Yoga: This class may vary from flow to restorative and balancing. The class is virtual at 1 p.m., register here.
- What do you mean my writing isn’t perfect?!? Revision/Editing Strategies: This honors workshop will be virtual at 2 p.m.
- Speech-Language Pathology open house: The open house will be at 3 p.m. in the NIU Health, Wellness and Literacy Center, 2305.
- Outdoor Adventures: Beginner Backpacking: Join in backpacking and exploring the Yellow River State Forest in Iowa. Registration cost and deadline: NIU student: $100, non-student: $150 by Oct. 12. Date and Time(s): Friday, Oct. 15 at 4 p.m. to Sunday, Oct. 17 at 5 p.m.
- Free Fitness Friday – Rec Group Fitness: Join every Friday for a Free Group Fitness class at 4:30 p.m in the Student Recreation Center.
- Kahoot! Game Night: It’s virtual Kahoot night with the Center for Latino and Latin American Studies at 7 p.m., register here.
- Noche de Gala: Closing of Latino Heritage Month at 7 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center, Ballroom.
- “Edward II” – presented by NIU School of Theatre and Dance: A play will be at 7:30 p.m. in the Stevens Building, Sally Stevens Players Theatre, register here.
