Ransomware attack inhibits servers in DeKalb

By Northern Star Staff

DeKALB — On Monday, there was a ransomware attack on DeKalb County. The servers were inaccessible, limiting the functionality of County operations, according to the DeKalb County Administration. It does not appear that any of the County files have been compromised.

Significant progress has been made to restore the servers using back-up data by the County’s Information Management Office. However, e-mail access is currently unavailable and County staff has made arrangements to provide services within the current limitations.

“I am proud of the work that the Information Management Office team has been doing and the flexibility our staff has shown making adjustments to provide services,” County Administrator Brian Gregory said in a Monday news release.

DeKalb County Board Chairperson John Frieders also showed appreciation and added, “We appreciate the public’s continued support and patience as our staff work to restore our system.”
