Future Huskies earn accolades

NIU men’s basketball coach Brian Hammel and his staff have gone 4-for-4 as far as instate recruiting is concerned.
Hammel signed four players from the state of Illinois in the November early signing period, and the quartet made various All-State honor squads as announced this week by the Associated Press.
Leading the way for the Huskies would be 6-4 forward Jamal Robinson from Maywood Proviso East High School. Robinson earned First-Team All-State honors for the unbeaten, No. 1-ranked Pirates (25-0). Last Friday night, Robinson posted a game-high 23 points and 16 rebounds in a 64-58 triumph over Hinsdale South.
Two other Huskie frosh-to-be—6-7 center-forward Mike Hartke from Heyworth High School and 6-7 forward Clayton Stivers from Findlay High School—were selected to the AP’s First-Team Class A All-State unit.
Huskie signee No. 4—6-7 forward Scott Peterson from Pekin High School—was tabbed on the AP Class AA Honorable Mention All-State list.
Hammel’s staff also signed one out-of-state prospect last fall—6-3 guard Chad Weeks from Blaine, Minn.
