This weekend in Huskie athletics: Feb. 4 edition

Women’s track and field

Friday, Feb. 4 – Saturday, Feb. 5

Meyo Invitational – Loftus Sports Center (Notre Dame, Ind.)

The track and field team heads to the home of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish for the two-day long Meyo Invitational. NIU will attempt to build off a strong slew of season-opening performances after winning 14 events in the first three meets of the 2022 season.

at Notre Dame @ 3 p.m. CT – Eck Tennis Pavilion (Notre Dame, Ind.)

The 1-1 women’s tennis team opens the weekend with three consecutive home matches, beginning with in-state rival Western Illinois at 1 p.m. Friday. Upon finishing their match against the University of St. Thomas, the Huskies take to South Bend, Indiana for a Sunday afternoon duel with the Fighting Irish.

Women’s gymnastics

Friday, Feb. 4

NIU Quad Meet @ 6 p.m. – Convocation Center (DeKalb, Ill.)

The Huskies make their home debut for the 2022 season as they host Southeast Missouri State University, Lindenwood University, and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. NIU will seek to earn its second straight victory after edging Bowling Green State University 195.075-194.575 in head-to-head competition on Sunday.

Wrestling

Saturday, Feb. 5

at Buffalo @ 12 p.m. CT – Alumni Arena (Buffalo, N.Y.) | TV: ESPN+

NIU’s wrestling team looks to regain its collective footing in Mid-American Conference play as they head to Buffalo, New York, to challenge the University of Buffalo. There, they will have the opportunity to defeat their first conference opponent since Kent State University on Dec. 18.

Women’s basketball

Saturday, Feb. 5

vs. Ohio @ 1 p.m. – Convocation Center (DeKalb, Ill.) | TV: ESPN+

The Huskies and Bobcats prepare to clash for the second time this season after NIU left Ohio with the 71-68 win in their first meeting on Jan. 8. NIU will once again be tasked with holding off reigning MAC Player of the Year and all-time leading scorer Cece Hooks as they attempt to shake off Wednesday’s 64-54 loss at the hands of Bowling Green State University.

Men’s basketball

Saturday, Feb. 5

at Bowling Green @ 4 p.m. – Stroh Center (Bowling Green, Ohio) | TV: ESPN3

Head coach Rashon Burno and the men’s basketball team make their way to Ohio to face a familiar opponent in Bowling Green State University. Their previous matchup on Jan. 18 saw the Huskies lose in front of the home crowd as the Falcons earned the 92-83 road victory. Heading into Saturday’s game, NIU will try to maintain its winning ways after earning its first victory in six games Tuesday against Western Michigan University.

Men’s tennis

Sunday, Feb. 6

vs. Cardinal Stritch @ 12 p.m. & 5 p.m. – Chick Evans Field House (DeKalb, Ill.)

The Huskies prepare to defend their home court and undefeated record as the Cardinal Stritch University Wolves come to town Sunday. If successful, NIU will carry itself into a four-game road stretch that begins with a trip to Cincinnati, Ohio, on Feb. 11 at Xavier University.
