The possibilities of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are seemingly endless at this point. The concept of the multiverse was explored in the Marvel animated series “What If…?” and came to fruition with the live-action film “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” In the Spider-Man film, there were two variants of the web-slinger from their respective universes played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, both actors who have played Spider-Man in previous solo films of the character.

It seems the state of the multiverse is in chaos or more so in a state of madness as the upcoming Dr. Strange film implies. “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” seems to take place shortly after the events of the last Spider-Man film, in which a spell was cast to make people forget that Peter Parker is Spider-Man and the visitors from other multiverse Earths were sent back. However, the very existence of the upcoming Dr. Strange sequel seems to imply that there were lasting effects from the spell that will come back to haunt Dr. Strange and change the cinematic universe as we know it.

The most recent trailer was released during Superbowl Sunday and, of course, has fans speculating about what is to come. Early on into the trailer, it seems that Dr. Strange has been having dreams and visions of other versions of himself as they meet their demise to some unknown otherworldly force. It seems that the barrier of realities is still cracking and damaged from the previous spells cast.

So far from the trailer, it is known that the film will include supporting characters to the film like Wanda Maximoff, otherwise known as the Scarlet Witch, played by Elizabeth Olsen, according to IMDB. Hopefully, audiences get to see her progress after the events of her Disney+ series “WandaVision.” It is theorized that she will take on a more villainous role and hopefully fans can explore more of the character, as a lot was revealed about her origin in the Disney+ series.

It is also confirmed that the young Avengers character America Chavez, played by Xochitl Gomez, will make her big-screen debut in the film. America Chavez is another example of young Avengers characters that have been making live-action debuts, hopefully leading to the formation of a new team in the cinematic universe.

One of the biggest reveals from the Super Bowl trailer is the voice and slight glimpse of what is supposedly the actor Sir Patrick Stewart.

This has many fans excited because for those who know, he previously played Professor Charles Xavier in the X-men film franchise. Stewart was perfect casting for the role and this further opens the door of speculation with anything X-men or mutant-related coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

However, this version most likely won’t be the main Charles Xavier going forward and could possibly be a variant of the character.

Viewers also got to see what appears to be a throne room of many chairs and unknown figures alongside him. This leads many to believe that this will be the reveal of Marvel’s Illuminati, a secret organization consisting of powerful leaders and heroes that have worked in secret to shape and mold the status of the Marvel universe.

The film will undoubtedly change and reveal new secrets about the universe and hopefully provide some fan service to those who have questioned the status of mutants in the cinematic universe for some time now. Fans can finally witness the madness of the multiverse when “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” comes to theaters on May 6.
