There are moments in life when we aren’t always feeling the best. There are days when we may feel uninspired. It’s OK to feel this way in order to recharge. Nothing beats finding something that inspires or brings joy either. With films being a huge part of the entertainment industry, it’s great that there are different genres of films that can evoke different emotions. Here is a list of films that are sure to brighten the mood in some way.

Hook (1991)

This film is a fantasy adventure film directed by Steven Spielberg. It is a retelling of “Peter Pan” and stars Robin Williams as the main character, Peter Banning. The film also works as a sequel to the 1911 novel, “Peter and Wendy,” written by James Matthew Barrie.

“Hook” focuses on an adult Peter Pan who has forgotten about his childhood and lives a new life as a workaholic lawyer. He has a wife and children, but due to his work his life has become mundane. However, his world changes when his children are kidnapped by the enemy of his past, Captain Hook, played by Dustin Hoffman.

Peter must return to Neverland to save his children. Along his journey, he reclaims the memories of his past and gains a new perspective on life. Audiences both young and old can enjoy this film that will bring a smile to their face by the end.

The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)

This film will be a tear jerker for the most part as it shows the journey of a struggling salesman as he takes custody of his son and pursues a life-changing professional career.

“The Pursuit of Happyness” is a biographical drama about famous American businessman Chris Gardner. The film stars Will Smith as Chris Gardner in a stellar performance and shows the struggle, but also the motivational life lessons and uplifting spirit of Gardner.

The film is heavily filled with themes about courage, determination and keeping a positive outlook on life. Even despite the heartbreaking struggles shown in the film, Gardner never gives up and keeps striving for success while raising and inspiring his son in the process.

Rocky (1976)

It’s not just the first “Rocky” film that should be on this list as the entire “Rocky” franchise is uplifting. However, “Rocky” from 1976 is responsible for starting it all and is the ultimate underdog story.

The film focuses on a small-time Philadelphia boxer, Rocky, played by Sylvester Stallone. He gets the rare chance to fight the world heavyweight champion in a match of a lifetime, in which he strives to go the distance for his own self respect.

Throughout the franchise, we see Rocky in various matches where he gives his all to prove he’s worthy to fight alongside the best.

Rocky has so much emotional depth to him and behind the muscle-bound exterior is such a kind-hearted person. Friendship and respect are big themes in the films as well and a lot of the antagonists usually aren’t bad people, just misguided or trying to earn respect and fame, but aren’t as humble about it as Rocky.
