DeKalb day planner: March 26
March 24, 2022
With the weather warming up in DeKalb, there are more things to do around town. This Saturday, DeKalb has some events and concerts happening. Here’s some of what’s going on if you’re looking for ideas on how to spend your weekend.
Rock painting or drum concert
The DeKalb Public Library, 309 Oak Street, is offering a rock painting workshop from 11 a.m. to noon. The workshop will be held in the teen room. Registration isn’t required and it is free to attend, according to the library’s website. Supplies will be provided, but you can bring your own rocks if you’d like.
If you want to start your day off with some rhythm instead, the Justin Leggaro senior percussion recital will be held at the Music Building in the Recital Hall from 11 a.m. to noon, according to the NIU events calendar. Admission is free.
If you can’t make it in person don’t worry, the recital will be available for you to live stream.
NIU softball and baseball games
This Saturday NIU’s softball and baseball teams are playing in DeKalb. At noon, the baseball team faces Kent State at the Ralph McKinzie Field, according to the NIU athletic calendar. At 3 p.m., the NIU softball team will face off against Miami.
If you show up to the field with your student ID, admission is free. You can also watch the live stream of the game against Kent State and the game against Miami on the NIU website.
Live music
There’s a few options to choose from if you’re looking for a Saturday night full of live music.
The Music Building, 550 Lucinda Avenue, is holding a recital from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Meng Su will perform as part of the international guitar series, according to the NIU events calendar. The classical guitar performance will be held in the Recital Hall of the Music Building and is free to attend.
The Beatles tribute band, Liverpool Legends, are coming to the Egyptian Theatre, 135 North Second Street, on Saturday. Liverpool Legends have a strong tie to the original Beatles. Each member of the tribute band was hand-picked by Louise Harrison, the late George Harrison’s sister, according to the Egyptian Theatre’s website. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. and tickets range between $35 to $65 based on the seat you pick. Children and students with an ID get a $5 discount.
On Saturday, the band Outpatience is playing at Stage Left, connected to Hometown Sports Bar & Grill, 241 East Lincoln Highway. According to the Facebook event page, the rock band is playing from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., so you could even catch one of the other shows and still have time to catch an Outpatience set. The show is free to attend. Hometown Sports Bar & Grill is also a great place to grab a drink after an eventful Saturday, if you’re over 21 of course.
Hopefully you now have a few different options to choose from this Saturday instead of your regular routine. Have a great weekend.
