What I’m watching this weekend: Northern Star Staff
March 31, 2022
It can be difficult to narrow down what you want to watch with all of the options available. If you’re one of those people who take note of what won at the Oscars and then create a list of potential options, you probably have a good list to get through at the moment. Regardless of who won at the Oscars last weekend, here are some other picks you should add to your queue.
Bridgerton (Netflix)
The second season of “Bridgerton” came out March 25. I haven’t gotten to watch any of the second season as of now, but it looks like it will focus on the secret identity of Lady Whistledown and whether it will be revealed or not. This is the main reason I continue to watch this series, so I’m hoping it’ll be full of suspense.
“Bridgerton” is a period drama set in England. It is full of secrecy, romance and is pretty entertaining. I wouldn’t say it’s a favorite by any means, but I’m already invested in the storyline and want to know what will happen next. The show stars Phoebe Dynevor, Regé-Jean Page, Jonathan Bailey, Simone Ashley and Nicola Coughlan. The first season focused on Daphne, played by Dynevor, and Simon, played by Regé-Jean Page and their complicated relationship. – Madelaine Vikse, Lifestyle Editor.
Switched at Birth (Amazon Prime Video, Freeform)
“Switched at Birth” was the first show I ever binge watched. It premiered in 2011, starring Vanessa Marano and Katie Leclerc. This is a show about two girls, Bay and Daphne, who were switched at birth, but no one figured it out until they were in high school. Both of their home lives are turned into chaos as they try to figure out a new normal that includes both families.
If a show including drama, family and romance is something you are interested in, check out “Switched at Birth.” – Angelina Padilla-Tompkins, Columnist.
Superman & Lois (HBO Max)
I first found a liking to the Superman character when I was a little boy with the “Smallville” series on The CW network, as well as the reruns of Superman the animated series “Superman: The Animated Series.” “Smallville” showed us the upbringings and ideals that Clark Kent was raised on to become the world’s greatest hero, while “Superman & Lois” shows us an experienced hero that is passing on those same ideals to his sons and navigating family life while being a superhero.
Originally premiering on The CW Network, the other shows based on DC Comics characters failed to deliver consistent plots due to too much filler, bad special effects and unnecessary character drama. “Superman & Lois” had a first season that I loved and am excited to binge season two to see the bond of the Kent family and what new threats there are for the last son of Krypton, Superman. The series delivers a modern take to the iconic comic book character and is filled with heartwarming family moments combined with plenty of science fiction and action. – Kyron Lewis, Lifestyle Writer.
