You’ve made it past the halfway point of the semester, congratulations! If you’re looking for a relaxing day filled with music, theater and yoga, here are some ideas on what to do this Sunday.
Chambers Ensemble Competition
Kick off your Sunday morning with a little music competition. The Chambers Ensemble competition will start at 10 a.m. in the Recital Hall of the Music Building. Watch the musicians compete, playing instruments from the trombone, viola, piano and more. Judging starts at 1:25 p.m. The competition is free to attend, but you can also catch the live stream on the NIU website.
Theater
This Sunday, two different theater productions are going on. “The Conference of the Birds” is being presented by the NIU School of Theatre and Dance at 2 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre in the Stevens Building. This play is based on a twelfth century poem and will incorporate figurative language movement and dance, according to the event page. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door. It is free for students to attend, just reserve your tickets ahead of time.
Also happening on Sunday at 2 p.m., Stage Coach Players, 126 South 5th Street, is putting on the hit Broadway musical “The Producers.” The show is adapted from Mel Brooks’ 1967 film of the same name. Tickets are $20 for adults and $18 for children and seniors, according to the venue’s website.
Yoga paddleboarding
Outdoor Adventures is hosting a stand-up paddle board yoga class at the Anderson Hall swimming pool from 3 to 4 p.m. The class is $10 for students and $20 for nonstudents. This class will challenge your balance and activate your core while simultaneously getting you into your zen mode according to the event page. You can register in advance here.
Ukraine war-time play reading
The NIU School of Theatre and Dance is presenting “The Ukrainian Component of the World-Wide Reading Project” at 7:30 p.m. at the O’Connell Theatre located in the Stevens building. Listen to readings about war-time in Ukraine from playwrights from Kyiv. Admission is free but donations will be accepted and given to benefit Ukrainian artists, according to the event page.
