Florida Gulf Coast University Student Engagement VP announced as third candidate for Student Affairs VP

Brian Fisher is currently the Associate Vice President of Student Engagement at Florida Gulf Coast University.

DeKALB — NIU has announced Brian Fisher as the third candidate in their search for the next Vice President of Student Affairs.

Fisher will visit DeKalb while holding the position of Associate Vice President of Student Engagement at Florida Gulf Coast University. He joined FGCU in 2006 and has served in his current role since 2018.

Before assuming his current position, Fisher acted as the Associate Director of the Office of Housing and Residence Life from 2006 to 2009. He was then promoted to the director position in the same department, where he remained until 2018.

Fisher received his first two degrees from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. He earned a bachelor of arts in political science cum laude in 1993 and later a master of science in higher education in 1995.

The final stop of Fisher’s post-secondary education was at Florida International University in Miami. He graduated with a doctor of education in higher education in 2007. Fisher spent the time between his master’s and doctorate degrees serving in the Office of Residence Housing and Life at the University of Alabama (1995-1997) and FIU (1997-2006).

Fisher’s list of honors and achievements dates back to his time at FSU. He was a participant in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Conference on Nonviolence in 1992 and 1993. His most recent achievement came in 2021 when he received a Leadership Training Certificate from Right Management, a global talent management firm. 

An open forum featuring Fisher will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Monday in Altgeld Hall room 200. A community forum will commence shortly afterward at 4:15 p.m. in the same location.
