NIU Athletics 2022 Hall of Fame class announced
July 13, 2022
DeKALB — NIU Athletics announced July 5 that it will be adding 13 inductees to its Hall of Fame as part of the 2022 Hall of Fame class.
The size of the 2022 class was expanded due to the postponement of the 2021 induction as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“With this bigger class due to COVID, we feel that we have selected an elite class that represents the best of Huskie Athletics,” said Hall of Fame committee chairman Rodney Davis in an NIU Athletics news release on July 5. “We are very excited to induct this group into the Hall of Fame and we hope that the entire NIU community will join us for the celebration.”
Seven student-athletes are included in the 2022 class, including NIU football head coach Thomas Hammock. Hammock played running back for the Huskies from 1999 to 2002. He returned to NIU in 2019 to assume head coaching duties and is entering his fourth season at the helm. Other names from the 2022 class include Amy Foulke, Chandler Harnish, Kristin Hoffman, Sandra Lutz, Scott Simon and Chad Spann.
Four families were also chosen due to their contributions to NIU Athletics: the Barsema family, the Chessick family, the Rich family and the Yordon family. One coach and administrator, Robert Collins, and one special contributor, Rick Cerrone, will also be inducted as members of the 2022 class.
Further information about the 2022 Hall of Fame inductees can be found in NIU Athletics’ news release linked above.
A ceremony will be held on Oct. 7 to honor the 2022 Hall of Fame inductees during NIU’s 115th Homecoming weekend celebration. More information regarding the event will be released later in the summer.
