DeKalb will host its 44th Corn Fest this weekend
DeKALB — The 44th annual Corn Fest is back this year with a plethora of events for all to enjoy.
The festival will be taking place all weekend from Aug. 26-28. It will feature live music, a carnival, free corn and other events for participants to attend.
Sound Stage
For fans of music, the Corn Fest Sound Stage will be located between 2nd and 3rd Street, right in the center of Locust street. It will feature artists of varying genres that attendees can watch for an additional fee. Past guests include famous singers and bands like Joan Jett and Night Ranger. This year is maintaining that energy with bands and performers like Renegade Wildflower, The Voices of Classic Rock, and Mike & Joe.
Carnival
Besides music, the festival will feature a carnival. Guests can participate in the carnival by purchasing individual tickets or a weekend megapass on-site.
You can find all your carnival needs behind Locust St. near the Sound Stage and Frontier parking lots. The event’s dates and times are as follows:
Friday, Aug. 26th
3 p.m. – 11 p.m
Saturday, Aug. 27th
11 a.m. – 11 p.m.
Sunday, Aug, 28th
11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Free corn
Unsurprisingly, the Corn Fest will have plenty of corn for attendees. Free sweet corn will be available from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. at the Chuck Siebrasse Corn Boil on Aug. 27.
If you can’t make it, uncooked corn will be available for purchase at the corner of Lincoln Highway and 4th Street every day of the event.
Corn has been the staple of the event since its inception in 1957 when the event was just a simple corn boil. The festival as it is known today began in 1977.
Whether it’s a kid-oriented festival, a cornhole tournament, a beer garden for adults of legal drinking age or a craft festival where vendors will sell their own art, Corn Fest has events for people of all ages.
