DeKalb County Sheriff’s police arrest juvenile involved in car chase on Aug. 29

DeKALBA female driver was arrested by DeKalb County Police on Aug. 29 for a stolen vehicle pursuit. 

Sheriff’s Police conducted a registration check for a white Honda on Glidden Road near Route 64. The vehicle was stolen out of Du Quoin, IL, according to the registration check. 

Officers followed the stolen vehicle southbound to DeKalb until backup officers could reach the area. The vehicle pulled into a parking lot, leading officers to hit their emergency lights. The driver then drove through the grass and over a curb into Hillcrest Drive. 

The female driver drove through several streets in Hillcrest, Fotis, Regent, Aspen and Eco-Park areas of town. She flattened two tires on the driver’s side as she drove over a curb near Hillcrest Drive and Aspen Drive.

The juvenile was driving in the grassy area behind townhouses in the 700 block of Aspen Drive when she stopped the vehicle and fled into a nearby soybean field. Officers could spot the driver in the field and then proceeded to take the juvenile into custody.

The driver will face felony charges of aggravated fleeing to elude and possession of a stolen motor vehicle, as well as additional charges of reckless driving, no valid driver’s license and several other traffic charges, were approved by the DeKalb County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Du Quoin PD will also be following up with charges for the original theft of the vehicle in their jurisdiction. DeKalb and NIU Police Departments assisted Sheriff’s Deputies. 

The female driver was transported to the Juvenile Justice Center pending a court hearing.
