Two swimmers honored
February 11, 1992
It was fitting that the seniors on the NIU men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams got recognized for their excellence prior to their final home meet against the UIC Flames.
Somehow last week’s honor of Mid-Continent Swimmer of the Week for Mark Oostman wasn’t good enough. So instead of receiving one honor, NIU seized two this time around.
Pam Jackson won North Star Conference Swimmer of the Week honors for the women’s team, while Todd Klumb took the Mid-Con Swimmer of the Week award for the men’s team.
Jackson was awarded for her performance against the Illinois State Redbirds on Jan. 31.
The Wisconsin native set two conference bests with times of :24.54 in the 50-yard freestyle and :53.75 in the 100-yard freestyle. The senior continued her success in the Huskies’ final home meet with first place times of :24.33 in the 50-yard freestyle and 4:08.36 as the anchor in the 400-yard medley relay.
Klumb snatched Mid-Con honors after his outstanding exhibition on Feb. 1 against the Loyola Ramblers.
Besides sparking the NIU 400-yard medley relay team to a first place, the senior from Naperville also set team best times of 1:47.95 in the 200-yard freestyle and 2:01.61 in the 200-yard butterfly. Klumb bettered his times in the UIC meet with first places in the same two events.
