Huskie of the Week: Tristan Tewes
DeKALB – Redshirt sophomore tight end Tristan Tewes has been named the Northern Star’s Huskie of the Week.
Tewes was a key factor in the Huskies’ 31-23 loss in Saturday’s matchup against the University of Kentucky. He racked up 37 yards receiving on six receptions and two touchdowns.
His two touchdown receptions were also the first two of his college career. Tewes has seen his role grow in NIU’s offense after the loss of redshirt senior tight end Miles Joiner to injury two weeks ago.
Tewes was also the only player to catch a touchdown pass on Saturday as he caught one from redshirt freshman quarterback Ethan Hampton and another from senior wide receiver Shemar Thornton on a designed wide receiver pass.
While the Huskies fell short against Kentucky, Tewes’ performance was a bright spot for NIU’s offense that has struggled for far this season and has already lost significant playmakers.
Tewes and the Huskies will take on Ball State University at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Scheumann Stadium in Muncie, Indiana. This will be NIU’s first Mid-American Conference game this season.
The Northern Star Athlete of the Week is voted for on a weekly basis. Votes are gathered from the sports reporters on Monday afternoons.
