DeKalb day planner: Oct. 1

If you’re unsure what to do for fun over the weekend, here are some events happening this Saturday in DeKalb.

PERFORMING SOUTHEAST ASIA

This exhibit, created in collaboration with the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, looks into the significance of performance in Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, and Burma, ranging from popular music to traditional dance. 

The exhibit is free and open to the public. The exhibit will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Cole Hall 114. 

NIU FOOTBALL

The Huskies face off against the Ball State University Cardinals. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. 

The game will be streamed on the TV channel ESPN+. The video of the game can be streamed here and the audio can be streamed here.

This game gives the Huskies a chance to come back from their 31-23 loss to the University of Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday. 

NIU VOLLEYBALL

The Huskies play against the Buffalo Bulls in New York. The match begins at 1 p.m.

The Huskies defeated Western Michigan University 3-2 on Tuesday. This match was their 7th consecutive win.

MELANCHOLY PLAY

Tilly’s melancholy is of exquisite quality and she turns her melancholy into something others find attractive and strangers she meets fall in love with her. One day, Tilly becomes happy, and wreaks havoc on the lives of her lovers and admirers, according to the NIU Events Calendar. Frances, who is Tilly’s hairdresser, becomes so melancholy that she turns into an almond. It is up to Tilly to get her back.

The play begins at 2 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre located in the Stevens Building. 

NIU students are free with a pre-reserved ticket. Tickets for non-NIU students are $9, adults are $17 and seniors are $15.

HOMECOMING CONCERT

Waka Flocka Flame and DJ Whoo Kid will be performing in the Duke Ellington Ballroom. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. 

Tickets are $5 for NIU students and an additional guest ticket can be purchased for $10. Guest tickets must be purchased by an NIU student, according to the NIU Events Calendar. Guests must present an ID at the door (i.e. driver’s license, passport, school ID with photo). Faculty and staff tickets are $10 each. Tickets can be purchased here
