Two seats open for election on DeKalb Park Board

DeKALB – Two positions for the DeKalb Park Board have opened up for the consolidated election set to occur on April 4, 2023. The positions will be filled by the County Clerk’s Election Division and each will serve a four-year term when elected.

Petition filing will begin on Dec. 12 and end on Dec. 19, according to a DeKalb Park District public notice. The filing period will be held Monday through Friday at 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. It will take place at the Administration Offices in the Hopkins Park Community Center. The community center is located at 1403 Sycamore Road in DeKalb.

For those considering running for the position, the Candidate’s Guide and signature requirements can be viewed here and here respectively. Elections Packets will also be available at the Administration Offices at the same time of the filing period.

The DeKalb Park Board is comprised of citizens of the DeKalb area with the goal of “connecting the community, enhancing the quality of life, improving the environment, and providing recreational and wellness opportunities for all members of our diverse community,” according to the DeKalb Park District Municipal Directory. The DeKalb Park Board strives to have the park district “recognized in the DeKalb area as a premier choice for parks and recreation opportunities.”

The DeKalb Park District offers a multitude of amenities for DeKalb residents with all interests. Amenities such as basketball courts and baseball fields are present for those with athletic backgrounds, while flower gardens and barbecue grills can be used for more leisurely activities.
