This weekend in Huskie sports: Oct. 7-9
DeKALB – NIU’s 115th Homecoming celebration features a weekend filled with Huskie home sporting events. Football, volleyball, men’s soccer and women’s soccer all stay in DeKalb to defend home against various Mid-American Conference opponents. Women’s tennis will be the only squad to take to the road.

The Huskies homecoming is this week and they have two games this week both against Mid-American Conference opponents. Both matches will be at home. Head coach Ray Gooden and the Huskies hope to make Huskies fans happy as they currently sit with a 11-4 record.

The Huskies take on a tough conference game against the Toledo Rockets this week. The Huskies currently sit at last place in the MAC West with a 1-4 record and an 0-1 record against conference opponents. Toledo is first in the west division with a 3-2 record and are also 1-0 against conference opponents. The Huskies are coming off a four game losing streak with an overtime loss last weekend to Ball State University. Toledo won last weekend against Central Michigan, 38-17.

The Huskies will play in their second invitational this season in the Warhawk Fall Invitational. This will be a weekend-long event in Whitewater, Wisconsin.

The Huskies continue their Mid-American Conference play this weekend following their first home victory last Sunday where junior midfielder Claudia Muessig scored her fourth goal of the season and the first time this season where a player has scored a goal in back-to-back games, while junior midfielder Jamie Ward secured her first collegiate goal. The Huskies currently hold a record of 5-4-3 in the regular season and are currently tied for sixth place with the Ohio Bobcats with both teams holding a record of 2-2-1 in conference play.

The Huskies come off a five-game road trip as they play at 1 p.m. on Sunday in DeKalb against the Western Michigan University Broncos. This will be their first matchup of the season against WMU.
