The worst season is… winter

Winter is not as enjoyable as people think it is.

That’s right, I finally said it. Winter is, in fact, the worst season of the year. When I ask other people to imagine the winter season, the image of snow capped mountains, cozying up on the couch with a warm cup of cocoa comes to mind. That concept of winter is far removed from the reality of the season.

When I think of the winter season, I think of long cold walks, crippling isolation, shoveling the driveway and ice accidents on the road. I imagine that sounds pretty extreme to you but I think I can convince you otherwise.

Winter seems fun in theory; but the truth is, Christmas is carrying the hype. All the traditionally “fun” winter activities like sledding, snow angels and snowmen building are in some way connected to the Christmas commercial machine. That’s all well and good, except for the fact that Christmas is only one day out of the year, and it’s fun while it lasts but what’s really left after the holiday?

The months January, February and March are cold, long and dry and filled with the worst cold snaps of the season. The only difference is that the joy of Christmas has already passed, and the only thing you have left is the cold amorphous blob of months that are January and February. If you noticed, people definitely get tired of winter around these months.

Sure, people have Valentine’s day to look forward to, but between you and me, it’s nothing more than a filler holiday for couples.

Yes, winter has cool things to do, but the season itself is the bleakest time of the year and nothing will convince me otherwise.
