October 17, 2022
DeKALB – A recent survey conducted by GasBuddy of 4,378 stations in Illinois showed that the average gasoline price fell to 9.8 cents per gallon in the last week. The average price of gas on Monday stood at $4.30 per gallon.
The cheapest station in Illinois on Sunday priced its gas at $3.49 per gallon, making it the lowest price in the state while the most expensive price was $5.87 per gallon.
According to GasBuddy data compiled from over 150,000 gas stations across the country, the national average price of gasoline has fallen 5.4 cents per gallon in the last week. Although the price of gasoline is falling, data has shown that the national average is up 20.6 cents per gallon from a month ago and 56.6 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.
“After a sharp rise in the national average over the last few weeks, we’ve seen an abrupt, yet expected decline as refinery issues have eased in the West and Great Lakes, overpowering some increases elsewhere,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “Though at the same time, diesel prices have soared.”
The national price of diesel stands at $5.06 per gallon, an increase of 18.7 cents in the last week.
“Diesel and heating oil prices are likely to continue to rise as extremely low inventories of middle of the barrel products like these two push prices higher,” De Haan said.
