DeKALB – NIU redshirt junior kicker John Richardson was named the Mid-American Conference’s West Division Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday as part of the MAC’s Week 7 Players of the Week.

Richardson earned this honor by making all four of his field goal attempts on Saturday against Eastern Michigan University. Richardson hit his field goals from 41, 39, 28 and 33 yards. Two of his field goals took place in the second quarter to give the Huskies a 20-7 lead heading into halftime.

Richardson added two more field goals in the second half to help the Huskies put the game away. Richardson also made all of his extra point attempts to finish with a total of 15 points of his own, one point shy of his career-high for points in a game. Richardson also kicked off a squib kick that was muffed by EMU and recovered by NIU.

This is the fifth time in Richardson’s career that he has been named the MAC West Special Teams Player of the Week. He received the honor two times last season and another two times in 2019.

Richardson and the Huskies are back on the road Saturday against Ohio University at 1 p.m. The game can be watched on ESPN+ and live statistics can be found through StatBroadcast.
