2022 candidate profiles: Governor of Illinois

Race: Illinois Governor (Incumbent)

Party: Democratic

Experience: Founder and former managing partner of Pritzker Group (1996-2017), founder of 1871 and current governor of Illinois

Education:

Bachelor’s degree – Duke University, political science and government.
Juris doctor – Northwestern University

Major issues:

“I’ve always stood up for a woman’s right to choose, and as Governor I was honored to sign legislation to protect reproductive rights in Illinois when the U.S. Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade. MK and I have been supporters of the Center on Wrongful Convictions, which has become a national leader in overturning wrongful convictions of the innocent,” Prizker said via his campaign website.

“I’ve been a national leader in supporting early childhood education, and I’ve worked tirelessly to make major investments in these programs to help kids across the state and expand access to preschool services to thousands more children,” Pritzker said via his campaign website.

Party: Republican

Experience: Current owner of Bailey Family Farm, North Clay Unit 25 member of Board of Education, state representative of District 109 (2019-2021), state senator of District 55 (2021-present).

Education:

Associate’s degree – Lake Land College, agricultural production

Major issues:

“’The Nightmare on Elm Street’ is coming to a neighborhood near you when the SAFE-T act goes into effect on January first,” Bailey said during a rally in Effingham, Illinois.

“Today, there is a political class that is ignoring our values and harming American families. Illinois needs a leader that is one of us,” Bailey said via his campaign website.
